Friend of top pick Mickey Moniak now has to get Moniak’s name tattooed on his butt

Mermaid Parade Held At New York's Coney Island

NEW YORK - JUNE 26: A baby sports a “Mother” tattoo like his dad’s as he’s carried through throngs of onlookers during the 2004 Mermaid Parade June 26, 2004 at Coney Island in the Brooklyn borough of New York. A bet’s a bet. And the friend and teammate of first overall draft pick, Mickey Moniak, made a bet.

The bet: if Moniak was taken in the top 10 of the draft that friend, Ethan Abrams, would have to get Moniak’s name tattooed on his butt. The bet was made years ago, before it was certain that Moniak would be taken so high, so it’s totally legit as far as I’m concerned.

It’s legit as far as Moniak is concerned too. From Anthony Castrovince of MLB.com:

“That is true,” said Moniak, a charismatic Cali kid who was clearly comfortable on camera. “That is very true. … I’m holding him to that, too.”

So for Abrams, what happened here Thursday was a pain in the you-know-what.

If Abrams follows through, he’ll have a lot of interesting conversations with significant others in the decades ahead.
