Kelly Johnson hits for the cycle

Kelly Johnson hit for the cycle in Friday night’s 7-4 loss to the Giants. He collected a solo home run in the first inning, a double in the fifth, a two-run triple in the sixth and a single in the eighth.

Johnson is the third player to accomplish the feat this season, joining Bengie Molina and Jody Gerut. He is the fourth Diamondbacks player to hit for the cycle and the first since Stephen Drew on September 1, 2008.

While Johnson was thrilled about the individual accomplishment, he told Andrew Prentis of MLB.com that it would have been even sweeter had the last-place D-Backs won the game.

“Pretty cool thing to say that you did, but unfortunately we lost.”

Johnson entered Friday’s contest in a 2-for-16 slump. The 28-year-old second baseman is batting .283/.373/.512 with 16 homers and 49 RBI this season.
