The Marlins have designated reliever Nick Masset for assignment, Jon Heyman of CBS Sports reports. The move creates roster space for starter Henderson Alvarez, who will be activated from the 15-day disabled list on Sunday.
Over seven relief appearances spanning 8 2/3 innings, Masset allowed three runs (two earned) on 11 hits and one walk while striking out five.
Alvarez has been on the disabled list since April 13 due to inflammation in his right shoulder. He had allowed six runs on 12 hits and a walk with five strikeouts in 12 innings. He’ll oppose Shelby Miller of the Braves in the series finale on Sunday.
