Marlins to interview former catcher Mike Redmond for managerial gig

Mike Redmond, who spent the first seven of his 13 big-league seasons with the Marlins, will be brought in to interview for Ozzie Guillen’s old job.

MLB.com’s Joe Frisaro calls Redmond “a strong frontrunner” for the job. He says Reds pitching coach Bryan Price is also getting consideration.

Redmond spent this season managing Single-A Dunedin in the Blue Jays’ system. The 41-year-old retired two years ago after hitting .287/.342/.358 with 13 homers in 2,264 at-bats with the Marlins, Twins and Indians. A backup catcher, he never started more than 74 games in a season.
