The Phillies have signed outfielder Tony Gwynn, Jr. to a minor league deal and assigned him to Triple-A Lehigh Valley, CSN Philly’s Jim Salisbury reports. The Phillies had released Gwynn last Monday after having designated him for assignment.

Gwynn, 31, struggled offensively, posting a .163/.281/.204 slash line with three RBI and two stolen bases in 119 plate appearances. Now that the trade deadline has passed, the Phillies remain set in the outfield, so Gwynn will serve as organizational depth.
