The Pirates have claimed 1B/OF Travis Ishikawa off waivers from the Giants, Tim Dierkes of MLB Trade Rumors reported on Sunday. The Giants had designated Ishikawa for assignment on Friday.
Ishikawa, 31, was the Pirates’ Opening Day first baseman last season before heading back to the Giants and eventually becoming a postseason hero. He only accrued six hitless plate appearances for the Giants this season, but hit .271/.342/.421 with four home runs and 19 RBI with Triple-A Sacramento.
