According to Ben Badler of Baseball America, Rangers prospect Ronald Guzman has been ordered to stay in the Dominican Republic while an investigation into his involvement in a fatal car cash continues.
Guzman crashed his Ford Explorer into a motorcycle in his hometown of La Vega on Tuesday morning and killed the driver, 27-year-old Eleazar Garcia. He was held for questioning and released after posting a $13,500 bond, but the investigation could last as long as six months. This means that he could miss the beginning of spring training at the very least.
Guzman had a lot of hype as a prospect when he signed with the Rangers for $3.45 million in July of 2011. The 20-year-old batted .218/.283/.330 with six home runs over 118 games this past season with Class A Hickory.
