It was a very disappointing April for Rays outfielder Desmond Jennings, who hit .222/.306/.238 in 18 games. And now his May is off to a rough start too.

Roger Mooney of the Tampa Tribune reports that Jennings was officially placed on the 15-day disabled list Sunday morning with bursitis in his left knee. The injury had kept him out for six straight games. He was originally penciled into the Tampa Bay starting lineup on Saturday night but didn’t look right in pregame warmups and had to be scratched.

“It’s not the Dez we want to see,” manager Kevin Cash said. “It’s just not progressing the way we want it.”

Joey Butler has been called up from Triple-A Durham to give the Rays outfield depth.

The hope is that Jennings will be ready for activation as soon as he’s eligible.
