Report: Blue Jays aggressively pursuing Andrew Miller

Sportsnet’s Jeff Blair hears from a source with a competing team that the Blue Jays are being “very aggressive” in their pursuit of free agent reliever Andrew Miller. The Jays did not make a qualifying offer to Casey Janssen, so they are certainly in the market for a closer.

Miller, 29, had an excellent season. The Red Sox, headed nowhere fast, traded him to the Orioles at the trade deadline in exchange for minor leaguer Eduardo Rodriguez. Miller finished the season with an aggregate 2.02 ERA and a 103/17 K/BB ratio in 62 1/3 innings. During the post-season, Miller pitched 7 1/3 scoreless innings with an 8/1 K/BB ratio.

Though Miller has never been a full-time closer, he is drawing interest as one. It’s certainly plausible with the prodigious strikeout and walk numbers he posted this past season.
