Jon Heyman of MLB Network and WFAN is reporting that Ike Davis is expected to sign a minor league deal with the Rangers. Heyman adds that the Yankees were among several teams showing interest in Davis.

Davis, who turns 29 in March, had his 2015 season with the Athletics shortened by a hip injury, for which he underwent surgery back in August. He hit .229/.301/.652 with three home runs and 20 RBI in 239 plate appearances.

Davis was once a top prospect in the Mets’ minor league system but wasn’t able to perform consistently and battled several injuries as well. Now he’ll have to battle for a spot on the Rangers’ major league roster.
