The Diamondbacks continue to clean house. Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports reports that Tony La Russa is no longer the club’s chief baseball officer. The new general manger, as yet unknown, will head up the baseball operations department.
Heyman adds that La Russa and owner Ken Kendrick spoke for three hours on Monday morning. La Russa is still deciding whether or not he wants to remain with the organization.
Earlier on Monday, the Diamondbacks canned GM Dave Stewart and manager Chip Hale, the culmination of another disappointing season in Arizona. The D-Backs finished 69-93, just a game ahead of the Padres to stay out of last place in the NL West. The Diamondbacks will pick seventh in the first round of the 2017 draft.
