Jack Curry of the YES Network reports that the Yankees are expected to hire Jeff Pentland as a hitting coach and Alan Cockrell as an assistant. As Curry notes, it will be the first time the Yankees will have had two hitting coaches.

Pentland, 68, has served as the hitting coach for the Marlins, Cubs, Royals, Mariners, and Dodgers.

Cockrell, 52, briefly appeared in the major leagues for the Rockies in 1996. He has twice served as a hitting coach for the Rockies, and was in the same role for the Mariners in 2009 and early in 2010.

Kevin Long had served as the Yankees’ hitting coach since 2007 but was hired by the Mets in October.
