Joakim Soria served as the Royals’ primary closer from 2007-2011, tallying 160 saves alongside a 2.40 ERA, 1.04 WHIP, and 9.7 K/9. Now a free agent, there’s talk of the right-handed reliever returning to Kansas City.

FOX Sports’ Jon Morosi reports that the Royals are interested in a reunion with Soria, adding that talks between the two parties “remain preliminary.”

Soria registered a 2,53 ERA, 1.09 WHIP, and 8.5 K/9 in 67 2/3 innings this past season between the Tigers and Pirates. He served as a closer in Detroit, earning 23 saves, and then worked as a setup man in Pittsburgh.

Kansas City would presumably use Soria in setup duty for closer Wade Davis.
