The Yankees are going to try to trade Sonny Gray this offseason

Baltimore Orioles v New York Yankees

Yankees general manager Brian Cashman suggested today that trading Sonny Gray this offseason would be best for both parties.

Gray posted a 4.90 ERA over 30 appearances, with 23 of them being starts prior to a demotion to the bullpen. While he seemed to handle it all professionally, it’s also the case that he has been a disappointment for the Yankees and that it would be in his best interests to get a change of scenery as well. As it is, he’s unlikely to be thought of as a starter by the Yankees again, but another club is likely willing to take a chance that he can return to his pre-2018 form.

That form: four and a half seasons in Oakland in which he posted a 3.42 ERA (114 ERA+) and was considered a front line starter.
