The New York Yankees have signed infielder Ruben Tejada to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training, reports Jerry Crasnick of ESPN.

Tejada batted just .167/.247/.242 in 36 games between the Cardinals and Giants in 2016, hampered somewhat by a strained quad he suffered in spring training. Before that he was with the Mets where, unfortunately, he was most famous for getting his leg broken by Chase Utley. He was pretty useful for the Mets in 2015, however, and can play multiple positions. He’ll be in the running for a backup/utility role for the Bombers in 2017.
