Tyler Clippard owns a 2.03 ERA and 53 strikeouts in 40 innings this season. He’s replacing Jordan Zimmermann -- who has a biceps strain -- as the Nationals’ only participant in the All-Star Game.

Tim Hudson boasts an outstanding 2.83 ERA and 1.10 WHIP in 18 starts this season at age 38. He is replacing Madison Bumgarner, who became ineligible to pitch in Tuesday night’s All-Star Game when he was named the Giants’ starter for Sunday afternoon’s first-half finale against the Diamondbacks.

Alfredo Simon finished his first half with a 12-3 record, 2.70 ERA, and 1.05 WHIP in 18 starts for the Reds after spending much of his career as a reliever. He’s filling in for Johnny Cueto, who started Sunday.
