Before we hop into Sunday’s action, let’s catch up on what happened on Saturday. Marlins outfielder Giancarlo Stanton smashed a solo home run at Coors Field that traveled over 500 feet to left-cneter field, breaking a 2-2 tie in the fifth inning. It came on a first-pitch fastball from Rockies starter Chad Bettis.

Stanton’s blast set a Statcast-era record, measured at 504 feet. It also traveled further than any home run he hit during the Home Run Derby at Petco Park last month.
Rangers outfielder Nomar Mazara had the previous title of longest home run this season with a 491-foot homer. Kris Bryant had the Statcast-era record with a 495-foot homer last year.
Stanton entered play Sunday with a .242/.329/.490 triple-slash line with 23 home runs and 63 RBI in 408 plate appearances.
