Wanna buy the Red Sox’s 1912 World Series trophy?
If you’re in the market for a century-old World Series trophy, this is your lucky day.
According to the Associated Press the Red Sox’s 1912 World Series trophy will be auctioned off at the National Sports Collectors Convention in Baltimore next week and the company organizing the auction “expects the trophy will fetch more than $300,000.”
The current owner is Robert Fraser, a Red Sox fan who bought the trophy from a family friend of that 1912 team’s manager, Jake Stahl. He paid $74,000 in 2007 and the current bidding is already over $90,000.
Lenny Neslin of the Boston Globe notes that the Red Sox “have a replica of the trophy on display in Fenway Park.”
