Free agent reliever Matt Albers has agreed to a one-year, $2.25 million contract with the White Sox, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com. The deal to re-sign also includes a $3 million option or $250,000 buyout for 2017.
Albers missed much of last season after breaking his finger in a brawl, but when healthy posted a 1.21 ERA and 28/9 K/BB ratio in 37 innings for the White Sox.
Albers has a combined 2.32 ERA in 171 innings dating back to 2012, so while hardly a household name the 33-year-old right-hander could slide from middle relief into more of a setup role for Chicago.
