White Sox sign Chien-Ming Wang

Chien-Ming Wang, who opted out of his minor-league contract with the Reds earlier this week, has signed a new minor-league deal with the White Sox. He’ll report to Triple-A Charlotte and start yet another comeback attempt.

Wang won 19 games in back-to-back seasons for the Yankees in 2006 and 2007, but since then he’s logged a total of 259 innings with a 5.67 ERA while repeatedly being sidelined by injuries.

This season at Triple-A for the Reds’ affiliate he had a 3.70 ERA in 19 starts, with nearly as many walks (45) as strikeouts (50) in 119 innings, so it’s hard to view him as anything more than organizational depth at this point.
