Maronde

A third-round pick in 2011, Maronde posted a 2.26 ERA, 1.01 WHIP and 4.74 strikeout-to-walk ratio at three different levels of the minors. Baseball America ranked him as the Angels’ No. 10 prospect prior to the season.

Maronde put up a 2.26 ERA as a starter in 2012 in his first full season, but he’ll make the move to reliever at Triple-A, as the Angels feel his stuff plays better out of the pen. He struck out 11 over 9 2/3 innings this spring but also walked seven and gave up 13 runs (12 earned).

Maronde put up a 6.14 ERA and walked eight over his first 7 1/3 innings at Salt Lake, but he also struck out 11. The lefty is making a full-time transition to the bullpen this season and has a nice arm. He’ll work in middle relief.

Maronde was called up from the minors last week and allowed three runs in 2 1/3 innings over three relief appearances. The 23-year-old southpaw figures to get another shot in the Angels’ bullpen at some point this summer.

Maronde made 33 relief appearances with the Angels between 2012-2014 but produced a wretched 7.13 ERA. The former third-round pick will be nothing more than organizational bullpen depth for Miami.

The move clears a spot for Drew Rucinski on the 40-man roster. Maronde has had a pair of stints with the Angels this season, allowing nine runs over 6 1/3 innings of work.

Maronde had a 12.79 ERA and a 3.00 WHIP with seven strikeouts in 6 1/3 innings pitched for the Angels this year. They designated him for assignment on July 10.

He’ll take the place of Josh Wall on the active roster. Maronde allowed one run in three innings with five strikeouts and one walk in four appearances in his first stint with the big club this season.

They optioned Josh Wall to Triple-A after Sunday’s loss to the Tigers, and it’s believe that the 24-year-old Maronde is on his way to join the team in Washington. He appeared in four games with the Angels before his demotion, posting a 3.00 ERA, 1.67 WHIP and 5/1 K/BB ratio in three innings.

Maronde has already been up and down multiple times this season and owns a rough 5.68 ERA in 6 1/3 innings of work. The Angels will make a corresponding move Friday.
