Mets reassigned RHPs Brandon Sproat, Blade Tidwell, Adbert Alzolay, Oliver Ortega, Ty Adcock and Dom Hamel, C Kevin Parada, INFs Ryan Clifford, Jett Williams and Luke Ritter and OFs Drew Gilbert and Rafael Ortega to minor league camp.
New York shipped the majority of their top prospects over the minor-league camp during their latest batch of spring cuts. Sproat is the major headliner here after impressing last Friday in a pair of scoreless frames against the Nationals. Tidwell fired an immaculate inning and struck out five over two frames over the weekend against the Rays. Meanwhile, Clifford, Gilbert and Williams have a shot at ascending to the big leagues at some point in the near future.

Mets signed RHP Oliver Ortega to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.
The Mets are doing well with their minor league deals thus far, snagging Genesis Cabrera, Edward Olivares and now Ortega. The 28-year-old Ortega required two surgeries to remove debris from his elbow and missed all of 2024, but he had a 4.03 ERA and a 51/27 K/BB ratio in 58 innings for the Angels and Twins from 2021-23. He might be something close to an average reliever for the Mets, and that he has an option year left could prove helpful.

Astros sent RHP’s José Urquidy and Oliver Ortega outright to Triple-A Sugar Land.
Urquidy and Ortega have both opted to elect free agency following their removal from Houston’s 40-man roster. Urquidy underwent Tommy John surgery back in early June and will miss the vast majority of the 2025 campaign. He could make sense as a long-term stash option for a contender willing to wait until he’s finished his lengthy rehabilitation process. Ortega didn’t make an appearance last year for the Astros after undergoing a pair of elbow surgeries.
  • HOU Relief Pitcher #63
Oliver Ortega underwent season-ending surgery on Wednesday to remove a bone spur from his right elbow.
Ortega underwent elbow surgery back in late March to remove loose bodies in his right elbow and underwent an additional procedure earlier this week that will end his season. The 27-year-old righty was claimed off waivers last October from the Twins and has yet to pitch for the Astros.
  • HOU Relief Pitcher #63
Astros transferred RHP Oliver Ortega to the 60-day injured list.
Ortega is expected to miss 3-4 months after undergoing right elbow surgery last month. The procedural move opens up a spot on Houston’s 40-man roster.
  • HOU Relief Pitcher #63
Astros placed Oliver Ortega (elbow) on the 15-day injured list.
The 27-year-old is expected to miss three to four months after he underwent right elbow surgery. He’s shut down from any baseball activities until at least late June, but it’s still up in the air if he’ll be ready to go by that date.
  • HOU Relief Pitcher #63
Oliver Ortega will be out 3-4 months after undergoing right elbow surgery.
Ortega underwent a procedure to remove loose bodies from his right elbow and will be shut down from throwing until at least late June, if not longer. There’s a chance he’s ready to contribute at some point in the second half of the season. The 27-year-old righty was claimed off waivers from the Twins last October.
  • HOU Relief Pitcher #62
Astros claimed RHP Oliver Ortega off waivers from the Twins.
The 27-year-old Ortega had a 4.30 ERA in 14 2/3 innings for the Twins before missing the final five weeks with a strained back. The Astros have Hector Neris (player option unlikely to be exercised), Phil Maton and Ryne Stanek all eligible for free agency this winter, so it’s not surprising they’re on the hunt for relief depth.
  • MIN Relief Pitcher #62
Twins transferred RHP Oliver Ortega to the 60-day injured list.
The 26-year-old hurler landed on the injured list last week with a left lumbar strain, and now he’ll be shut down for the remainder of the season. He wound up posting a 4.30 ERA over 14 2/3 innings with the big league club this season.
  • MIN Starting Pitcher #81
Twins recalled RHP Jordan Balazovic from Triple-A St. Paul.
The former top prospect has made the transition to the bullpen this year, posting a 4.44 ERA and 1.56 WHIP over 18 appearances for the Twins. He also posted a 4.79 ERA across 35 2/3 innings in Triple-A; although, that also came with a 31.1 percent strikeout rate that has not carried over to the majors yet. He will get another crack at holding down a bullpen job with Oliver Ortega placed on the IL.
