Pirates designated OF Oscar Tejeda for assignment.
The Pirates claimed Tejeda off waivers from the Red Sox in late June but gave up on the 22-year-old pretty quickly after watching him bat just .242/.292/.364 in 221 plate appearances with Double-A Altoona. Tejeda seems likely to pass through waivers this time around.

Pirates claimed OF Oscar Tejeda off waivers from the Red Sox; assigned him to Double-A Altoona.
Tejeda was designated for assignment by the Red Sox following the Kevin Youkilis trade. The 22-year-old was once considered one of Boston’s top position prospects, but he has struggled in back-to-back seasons at Double-A.

Red Sox designated OF Oscar Tejeda for assignment.
Boston needed a spot on the 40-man roster after acquiring Zach Stewart and Brent Lillibridge from the White Sox for Kevin Youkilis. Tejeda, once considered one of the team’s most promising prospects, doesn’t have a ton of upside and had posted just a .690 OPS at Double-A this year.
  • PIT 2nd Baseman
Pirates sent OF Oscar Tejeda outright to Double-A Altoona.
Tejeda, 22, was removed from the 40-man roster and cleared waivers. The former top-prospect has failed to advance beyond the Double-A level this season.

Oscar Tejada hit his first homer and walked twice Thursday for low Single-A Greenville.
The two walks may be just as notable, as he had only two in 123 at-bats entering the game. The 18-year-old is hitting .232/.258/.304 on the season. It’s rather surprising that the Red Sox didn’t demote him with the short-season leagues having started, though Ryan Dent’s presence at Lowell may have something to do with that. Tejada is one of the team’s most promising prospects, but he’s barely holding his own in the Sally League.

Oscar Tejeda went 3-for-5 with a triple and three RBI against the Orioles on Saturday.
Tejeda disappointed in 2008 and 2009, but he came through with a nice .305/.342/.453 season as a 20-year-old in high-A ball last season. He’ll be one of the Eastern League’s youngest players this year, and while he doesn’t have a ton of upside, he might eventually surface as a regular at second base.
