Twins signed LHP Pat Dean to a minor league contract.
Brandon Warne of Zone Coverage confirmed that it’s a minor league deal. Dean, 29, previously appeared in 19 games (including nine starts) with the Twins in 2016. He’s spent the past two seasons with the KIA Tigers of the Korea Baseball Organization. Look for him to serve as organizational depth in his return to the Twins.

Pat Dean was knocked around in a no-decision against the Marlins on Tuesday, allowing four runs on seven hits in just 4 1/3 innings.
Dean struck out a pair and walked one in the ballgame. The Marlins never were able to mount a big rally against him, but scratched out single runs in every inning except the second. He’ll look to improve upon a 4.75 ERA and 1.48 WHIP when he does battle against the hard-hitting Red Sox at home on Sunday.

Pat Dean got lit up for six runs in 4 1/3 innings during a loss to the Indians on Wednesday.
He failed to strike out a single batter while giving up three walks and seven hits, two of which left the yard. He gave up single runs in the second and fourth frames before getting smacked for four runs in the fifth inning. There isn’t much fantasy upside with this 27-year-old left-hander. He now has a lowly 1-5 record and distasteful 6.75 ERA in 53 1/3 innings.

Twins recalled LHP Pat Dean from Triple-A Rochester.
Dean has posted a 5.54 ERA with the big club this season. He’ll work in long relief for now.

Pat Dean was tagged with six runs over three innings in a loss to the Blue Jays on Friday.
Not good. Dean gave up eight hits, but most of the damage came in the second inning, as he surrendered a two-run homer to Justin Smoak before Josh Donaldson slugged a three-run blast. The 27-year-old only got the call Friday because Hector Santiago was out with a bruised left thumb. They’ll have to hope he’s ready for his next turn.

Pat Dean beat the Mariners by allowing two runs over seven innings and striking out eight on Friday.
He walked none. Dean’s fastball is well below average, forcing him to be on point with his slider and changeup. He’s more than held his own through two major league starts, but we wouldn’t recommend him in AL-only leagues.

Pat Dean logged a quality start in a no-decision against the Blue Jays on Saturday, surrendering two runs on three hits over six strong innings.
Dean punched out five on the afternoon while walking two. The only blemish on his day came on a two-run blast off the bat of Jose Bautista in the third inning. It’s unclear if he’ll draw another start for the Twins, or head back to a long relief role in the club’s bullpen.

Pat Dean held the Red Sox to one earned run over 6 1/3 innings Sunday in a no-decision.
It was a good showing from the Boston College product, though he did issue four walks and he was left with a no-decision because the Twins didn’t win it until the bottom of the 10th inning. Dean struck out three and gave up only three hits. He’ll carry a 4.17 ERA and 1.42 WHIP into his next start at home against the Yankees.

Twins optioned LHP Pat Dean to Triple-A Rochester.
Dean got the boot after getting rocked to the tune of seven runs over just 2 1/3 innings Friday versus the Yankees. The southpaw put himself in an early hole by giving up four runs in the first inning, including a two-run homer to Carlos Beltran. He gave up eight hits in all while walking three and failed to strike out any of the 16 batters he faced. His ERA jumped from 4.17 to 5.54 with the loss and now he gets a ticket back to the minors. Tommy Milone is expected to take his spot on the roster.

Hector Santiago (thumb) has been scratched from his scheduled Friday start against the Blue Jays.
Santiago is dealing with a bruised left thumb. He was shelled by the Royals in his last start, but there has been no word that the thumb injury was the cause for the eight runs he surrendered over 4 2/3 frames. Pat Dean will start in his place on Friday.
