    Padres released C Pedro Severino.
Severino has spent the entire season at Triple-A El Paso and has only played in four contests since April 25. The 29-year-old backstop, who served an 80-game suspension last season with the Brewers after testing positive for a performance-enhancing substance, has presumably been let go to pursue another opportunity. Severino saw just 21 plate appearances at the big league level in 2022 before he tested positive for a performance-enhancing substance.

Pedro Severino has elected free agency.
Severino, 29, was outrighted off the roster by the Brewers, and he’s now going to become a free agent for the 2022 season. He dealt with an 80-game suspension for testing positive for a performance-enhancing drug, and went 4-for-18 in his limited time in Milwaukee. He should see interest from teams looking to add depth behind the plate.

Brewers sent RHP Pedro Severino outright to Triple-A Nashville.
Severino can decline the assignment and elect free agency if he wants. With Omar Narvaez (quad) out, though, he might be best off staying put.

Pedro Severino went 1-for-4 with a walk on Friday in his minor league rehab assignment debut for Double-A Biloxi.
Severino isn’t eligible to return from a league-issued 80-game suspension for testing positive for a performance-enhancing substance until July 3, but is eligible to play in minor-league games until that point. He’ll need a few weeks to get back up to speed before making his Brewers debut in a backup catcher role.
