Diehl inked a minor league contract with the Guardians back in February and never wound up making it to Cleveland. The 29-year-old southpaw made five relief appearances last year for the Mets after being acquired from the Reds at the trade deadline for outfielder Tyler Naquin.

Naquin hit a two-run homer in what will now be his final game as a member of the Reds, and posted a .749 OPS in his 56 games. Diehl adds organizational depth to the pitching staff. Naquin should be a solid bench option while a member of the New York lineup, and is scheduled to hit free agency at the end of the 2022 season.

No real surprises among the latest round of cuts from Reds’ major-league camp this spring. Their camp roster is down to 43 players. Zimmer is the most prominent name by a considerable margin. The 30-year-old righty figures to get a shot in Cincinnati’s bullpen at some point this season.
