Red Sox recalled LHP Raymond Burgos from Triple-A Worcester

Burgos was up over the weekend as the 27th man in a doubleheader and will now come up to provide the Red Sox with depth out of their bullpen. The 27-year-old has a 5.84 ERA in 12 1/3 innings for the Red Sox this weekend.

Raymond Burgos will serve as the 27th man for Saturday’s doubleheader against the Yankees.

Burgos provides Boston with another left-handed weapon out of the bullpen to combat New York’s southpaw-heavy lineup. The 27-year-old has give up only three runs over 10 innings of work across three relief appearances for the Red Sox this season.

Red Sox optioned LHP Raymond Burgos to Triple-A Worcester.

Burgos was asked to throw three innings on back-to-back days in his first stint with the Red Sox earlier this month. Yesterday’s indifference to his health might have been even worse, as he was allowed to continue on the mound after a rain delay in excess of 2 1/2 hours against the Pirates. Maybe the team can have him start both games of a doubleheader next time he’s recalled.

Red Sox recalled LHP Raymond Burgos from Triple-A Worcester.

The 27-year-old hurler was optioned back to Triple-A last Saturday, but he’ll return with Justin Slaten (elbow) landing on the injured list on Sunday. Burgos has done a nice job in his limited action with the Red Sox, posting a 3.00 ERA, 0.33 WHIP and a 4/0 K/BB ratio across six innings of work.

Red Sox optioned LHP Raymond Burgos to Triple-A Worcester.

Burgos worked the final three innings against the Athletics on Friday night to pick up his first career save. He wasn’t going to be available for a few days though, so the Red Sox wanted to add a fresh arm to their bullpen for Sunday’s bullpen game against the A’s, which unfortunately costs Burgos his spot on the roster for the time being. Seth Martinez was promoted from Triple-A Worcester in a corresponding move on Sunday.

Raymond Burgos pitched three hitless innings to notch a save against the Athletics in a 13-1 game on Friday.

Burgos, who had debuted for an inning with the Giants in 2024, lowers his lifetime ERA to 2.25 by balancing that 9.00 ERA outing against this 0.00 one. He saved the rest of the pen a night after a 13-inning affair, so at least this is more true to the namesake than some three-inning saves in blowouts.

Red Sox signed LHP Raymond Burgos to a minor league contract.

Burgos, 27, joins the Red Sox after posting a 5.25 ERA in three starts in the Mexican League. He also allowed one run in 3 2/3 innings for Puerto Rico in the WBC this spring. His major league experience consists of one appearance with the Giants in 2024.
