Mariners optioned OF Rhylan Thomas to Triple-A Tacoma.
Thomas, 25, is back with Tacoma with Leodys Taveras officially on the active roster after being claimed off waivers. Thomas could get another chance if the Mariners need extra outfield depth, but it seems unlikely to be soon.
  • SEA Center Fielder #3
Mariners claimed OF Leody Taveras off waivers from the Rangers.
The Mets seemed like maybe the best fit for Taveras among contenders, but he didn’t last that long on waivers. The Mariners definitely need the outfield depth with Victor Robles and Luke Raley on the IL. It’ll be quite a change for Taveras, who has never played the outfield corners as a major leaguer. He does have some minor league experience away from center, though. The 26-year-old has hit .240/.291/.370 in 1,825 plate appearances over six big-league seasons. Expect him to start against most righties for now. It’s unlikely that he’ll offer value outside of AL-only leagues. Rhylan Thomas will probably be optioned out once Taveras reports.
  • SEA Left Fielder #56
Randy Arozarena (hamstring) is absent from the lineup for Monday’s series opener against the Athletics.
Arozarena told reporters he expects to return to Tuesday’s lineup after leaving Sunday’s series finale against the Rangers with a minor right hamstring issue. It doesn’t sound like a serious concern moving forward, but hamstrings can be tricky matters. It’s a situation fantasy managers should continue to monitor closely. It’ll be Miles Mastrobuoni taking over in left field with rookie Rhylan Thomas getting into the lineup in the opposite corner.
  • SEA Outfield
Mariners selected the contract of OF Rhylan Thomas from Triple-A Tacoma.
Thomas, 25, was acquired by the Mariners from the Mets in the Rhyne Stanek trade back in July of 2024. The 25-year-old outfielder is not considered a top prospect, but he could get a chance to play against right-handed pitching with Luke Raley on the injured list with an oblique strain. That doesn’t make him relevant in fantasy leagues, of course.
  • SEA Outfield
Mariners acquired OF Rhylan Thomas from the Mets for RHP Ryne Stanek.
The 24-year-old outfielder was an 11th-round selection by the Mets from the 2022 draft class. He has split his 2024 campaign between Double-A Binghampton and Triple-A Syracuse where he has slashed .265/.318/.387 with five homers, 31 RBI and 11 stolen bases over 305 plate appearances. He’ll add outfield depth for the M’s.
  • SEA Relief Pitcher #45
Andy Martino of SNY reports that the Mariners have agreed to a deal to acquire Ryne Stanek from the Mariners.
Martino notes that the M’s will receive minor league outfielder Rhylan Thomas in return. The 33-year-old hurler has been a fixture in the late innings for the Mariners this season, posting a 4.38 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and a 44/17 K/BB ratio across 39 innings while recording seven saves. The Mariners acquired Yimi Garcia from the Blue Jays on Friday, who will apparently take over Stanek’s role in the bullpen.
