White Sox optioned OF Rikuu Nishida to Triple-A Charlotte.
Nishida went 12-for-29 (.241) without an extra base hit or a stolen base after being promoted from Triple-A near the end of May. He’ll head back to Triple-A with Braden Montgomery ready to join the White Sox in a corresponding move.
  • CWS Right Fielder #25
Derek Hill was scratched from the lineup for Saturday’s game against the Tigers with upper back tightness.
It’ll be rookie outfielder Rikuu Nishida taking over in center field and hitting ninth. It sounds like a precautionary move by the White Sox to prevent the issue from getting worse. Hill should be considered day-to-day heading into Sunday’s series finale.
  • CWS 2nd Baseman
Starting in right field, Rikuu Nishida went 1-for-3 and threw out a runner at home in his major league debut Monday versus the Twins.
The throw to retire Orlando Arcia was impressive from a rookie who played more second base and left field than right field in the minors. At the plate, Nishida had a 102-mph groundball single, a routine flyout and a strikeout. He doesn’t offer a ton of fantasy potential, but he’ll probably play against most righties for now.

White Sox selected the contract of INF/OF Rikuu Nishida.
Nishida gets the promotion after impressing in Charlotte with a .342/449/.392 slash over 32 games in Triple-A. The 25-year-old is a versatile player capable of playing all three outfield spots and the middle infield, but the lack of power makes him a tough sell from a fantasy perspective.

The White Sox are calling up Rikuu Nishida from Triple-A Charlotte, sources told Future Sox’s Ian Eskridge.
Nishida, 25, was hitting .342/.449/.392 with one homer and nine steals in 32 games since moving up to Charlotte last month. He plays second base and all three outfield spots. No word yet on who he’ll be replacing, and this might be just a short-term move if someone is going on the paternity or bereavement list.
