Braves re-signed C/1B Ryan Casteel to a minor league contract.
Casteel, 30, appeared in 68 games in Triple-A this past season while slashing .224/.299/.417 with eight home runs and 28 RBI over 174 plate appearances. He’ll return to provide depth between first base and catcher.

  • Braves signed C/1B Ryan Casteel to a minor league contract.
Casteel spent the majority of the 2018 season in the independent Atlantic League, batting .321/.383/.523 with 16 home runs and 70 RBI in 104 games for the Lancaster Barnstormers. The 27-year-old should find a starting spot in the upper levels of the Braves’ minor league system, either at catcher or first base.
  • Ryan Casteel slugged a go-ahead grand slam as the split-squad Mariners defeated the split-squad Diamondbacks 9-5 on Friday.
The Mariners trailed 5-2 going into the ninth, but that quickly changed after Yuhei Nakaushiro walked the bases loaded and Casteel took him deep. The Mariners ended up plating seven runs in the frame. Casteel, 25, split last season between Double-A and Triple-A while batting just .237/.292/.359 with six homers over 93 games. While he played hero on Friday, he’s not on the prospect radar.
