The Marlins have one of the most crowded starting rotations in baseball, so Castano and Hoeing will head back to Triple-A Jacksonville as extra organizational pitching depth.

Marlins re-signed C Santiago Chavez to a minor league contract.

The 26-year-old backstop had a dreadful season offensively in 2021, slashing a putrid .165/.243/.232 with two homers, six RBI and a 59/12 K/BB ratio over 185 plate appearances in 55 games between Double-A Pensacola and Triple-A Jacksonville. He’s nothing more than organizational catching depth at this point.
