It’s the second time in four days that Springer has been held out of action, so it’s possible that he’s battling some sort of minor injury. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. will function as the team’s designated hitter while Sean Keys starts at first base and will bat sixth against Royals’ right-hander Randy Dobnak on Sunday afternoon in Kansas City.

The 23-year-old Keys, who just recently added left field to his position mix along with first and third base, is back for another look after a big month of August that saw him hit .358/.470/.684 with seven homers for Buffalo. He might get some starts over Jesús Sánchez against righties to see if he can provide a spark.

Keys went 6-for-36 with one homer and a 13/1 K/BB in his 12 appearances with the Blue Jays. He remains a nice corner infield prospect, but odds are that he’s not going to get a real chance to help until next year.

Okamoto has been one of the few bright spots in a mostly nightmarish campaign for the Blue Jays. It’s his first off day since June 30. It’ll be rookie Sean Keys handling the hot corner in his place.

He drew this start because George Springer had a day off, so it’s still a wait and see situation as to Keys getting regular playing time.

It sounds like a precautionary move and fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day for now. It’ll be rookie Sean Keys moving over to cover first base with Ernie Clement at the hot corner and Luis Urías entering the lineup at second. Guerrero has been through a tough season at the plate with just four home runs across 81 games. There should be an update on his status following Tuesday’s contest in Toronto.
