Phillies signed Sergio Alcántara to a minor league contract.
He played one game for the Diamondbacks last season and wound up with the Nationals in spring training. Alcántara will probably help fill in for Aidan Miller at shortstop at Triple-A Lehigh Valley while Miller deals with a sore back that has him on the minor league injured list.
  • FA Shortstop #3
    Nationals released SS Sergio Alcántara.
Alcántara was in Nationals camp as a non-roster invitee this spring. The 29-year-old journeyman infielder got into one contest for the Diamondbacks last year, his first big-league stint since 2022. He should be able to latch on somewhere as organizational depth at the Triple-A level.
  • WSH 3rd Baseman #3
Nationals signed INF Sergio Alcántara to a minor league deal with an invitation to spring training.
Alcántara spent 2025 in the Giants and Diamondbacks organizations, hitting .251/.368/.341 in 113 games at Triple-A with two home runs and four steals. He has hit .207 in 506 career MLB plate appearances and is simply organizational depth who can play all infield positions.
  • FA Starting Pitcher #24
Guardians RHP Triston McKenzie elected free agency.
McKenzie headlines a group of 19 players who elected minor league free agency earlier this week, including catcher Matt Thaiss; infielders Scott Kingery, Keston Hiura, Sergio Alcántara, Terrin Vavra and Vimael Machín; outfielders Jose Siri, Connor Joe and Jordyn Adams; and relievers Noah Davis, Scott Blewett, Brooks Kriske, Kevin Herget, Cionel Pérez, Darren McCaughan, Richard Lovelady, José Ruiz and Jordan Weems.
  • AZ Shortstop #3
Diamondbacks sent SS Sergio Alcántara outright to Triple-A Reno.
Alcántara will remain with Arizona as emergency infield depth after being jettisoned from the club’s 40-man roster earlier this week. The 29-year-old shortstop was with the club for a pair of contests while Ketel Marte was away from the club tending to a personal matter. He got into one game earlier this season for the division-rival Giants.
  • AZ Shortstop #3
Diamondbacks designated INF Sergio Alcántara for assignment.
Alcántara’s brief stint with Arizona lasted only two games as he’s been jettisoned to make room for Ketel Marte to be activated from the restricted list.
  • AZ 3rd Baseman #39
Diamondbacks signed INF Sergio Alcantara to a one-year contract.
The 29-year-old defensive specialist will add some infield depth for the Diamondbacks while Ketel Marte is away from the team as he tends to a personal matter. Alcantara is a major liability in the batter’s box and can be completely ignored for fantasy purposes.
  • FA Shortstop #39
Sergio Alcántara has elected free agency.
After being sent outright to Triple-A Sacamento on Tuesday, the 29-year-old infielder chose to refuse the assignment and will instead try his luck on the open market. Way more of an asset with the glove than with the bat, he’ll try to find an opportunity that’s better suited to his skillset.
  • SF Shortstop #39
Giants sent SS Sergio Alcántara outright to Triple-A Sacramento.
Alcantara will remain with San Francisco as emergency organizational infield depth after passing through waivers unclaimed. The 28-year-old got into one contest for the Giants during his brief stint in the majors, his first since the 2022 campaign.
  • SF 3rd Baseman #39
Giants designated INF Sergio Alcantara for assignment.
That was short. Alcantara gets the heave ho from the roster with Matt Chapman (hand) activated off the injured list. The 28-year-old will hit the waiver wire, and if he goes unclaimed he’ll be able to report back to Sacramento or elect free agency.
