Sergio Romo has retired from professional baseball.
Romo stepped off the mound at Oracle Park for the final time on Monday evening in an exhibition contest against the Athletics, putting a bow on a 15-year career in which he was a part of three World Series championship teams for San Francisco. The 40-year-old righty finishes with 137 career saves and 821 appearances in the majors since 2008. He’ll also go down as the first opener in baseball history when he made five starts with the Rays during the 2018 campaign. It’s fair to say he had a pretty remarkable career.

Giants signed RHP Sergio Romo to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.
This just feels right. The 40-year-old Romo is scheduled to report to camp on Friday and will ramp things up in preparation for a couple of exhibition games, including the March 27 exhibition finale against the Athletics in San Francisco. Chances are that game will function as the end of his playing career in the uniform where he appeared in 515 games. It should be a special moment.

Sergio Romo has elected free agency.
The 39-year-old hurler refused his outright assignment to Triple-A Buffalo after clearing waivers, instead opting to peddle his wares on the open market. Romo has posted a 7.50 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and 14/6 K/BB ratio over 18 innings between the Mariners and Blue Jays this season.

Blue Jays designated RHP Sergio Romo for assignment.
Romo signed with the Blue Jays back in late June and wound up allowing three runs (two earned) with a 3/2 K/BB ratio across 3 2/3 innings (six appearances). The 39-year-old righty will likely pass through waivers unclaimed and should be able to latch on with a new organization for the remainder of the 2022 campaign.

Blue Jays signed RHP Sergio Romo to a one-year contract.
The deal was first reported Monday by Jon Heyman of the New York Post and has now been made official after Romo arrived in Toronto and passed the necessary pre-signing physical. The veteran reliever will be available out of the Jays’ bullpen on Wednesday night against the Red Sox.

Jon Heyman of The New York Post reports that the Blue Jays are signing free agent right-hander Sergio Romo.
Nothing official yet. Heyman adds that it will be a major league contract for Romo, who will augment the Blue Jays’ bullpen depth after being released by the Mariners last week. The 39-year-old veteran reliever has made an astounding 815 career appearances since 2008. He struggled earlier this year with Seattle, posting a bloated 8.16 ERA, 1.53 WHIP and 11/4 K/BB ratio across 14 1/3 innings (17 appearances). It’s possible a change of scenery will spark a late-career renaissance.

    Mariners released RHP Sergio Romo.
The M’s announced that the veteran right-hander has cleared unconditional release waivers and is now a free agent. The 39-year-old posted a troublesome 8.16 ERA, 1.53 WHIP and 11/4 K/BB ratio over 14 1/3 innings with the Mariners this season. It’s unclear if he’ll attempt to latch on elsewhere or is ready to call it quits.

Mariners designated RHP Sergio Romo for assignment.
Romo has really struggled this season, registering a lackluster 8.16 ERA, 1.53 WHIP and 11/4 K/BB ratio across 14 1/3 innings (17 appearances) this season. The 39-year-old veteran righty has made 815 career appearances over his 15-year career, which dates back to 2008. There’s a chance he sneaks through waivers and remains with the Mariners as organizational relief depth.

Sergio Romo gave up five runs and three homers while getting just two outs Wednesday against the Orioles.
Ouch. Romo has had entire seasons in which he hasn’t given up more than three homers. He had allowed just one run in eight innings this year coming tonight, so he should continue to get work in close games for now.

Mariners activated RHP Sergio Romo from the 10-day injured list.
Romo returns to the Mariners’ bullpen after missing just over a month due to right shoulder inflammation. The 39-year-old veteran reliever will provide an immediate boost for Seattle’s relief core.
