McKenzie headlines a group of 19 players who elected minor league free agency earlier this week, including catcher Matt Thaiss; infielders Scott Kingery, Keston Hiura, Sergio Alcántara, Terrin Vavra and Vimael Machín; outfielders Jose Siri, Connor Joe and Jordyn Adams; and relievers Noah Davis, Scott Blewett, Brooks Kriske, Kevin Herget, Cionel Pérez, Darren McCaughan, Richard Lovelady, José Ruiz and Jordan Weems.

Vavra passed through waivers unclaimed and will remain with Baltimore as organizational depth. The versatile 28-year-old got into exactly one game during a couple brief stints at the highest level this season.

Vavra’s latest stint with Baltimore lasted roughly 48 hours as he’s been jettisoned to free up a roster spot for newly acquired first baseman Ryan Noda.

Vavra, who hit .254/.331/.304 in 159 plate appearances for the Orioles between 2022 and ’23, was up briefly in May, but he didn’t get into a game. The 28-year-old offers a good eye at the plate and some defensive versatility, making him a perfectly adequate Triple-A player.

Young, who has made three minor league starts since returning from a shoulder issue that cost him nearly a month, is expected to be activated to make a spot start Wednesday against the Rangers. Vavra, most likely, will only be added to the roster if Jordan Westburg (finger) requires an IL stint.

As expected, Vavra went unclaimed on waivers after being designated for assignment over the weekend. The 28-year-old was up for only one day with Baltimore and didn’t get into a game. He’s merely emergency organizational depth at this stage of his career.

Vavra’s latest stint with the Orioles lasted roughly 24 hours during Saturday’s twin bill at Fenway Park where he didn’t make an appearance. The 28-year-old figures to pass through waivers unclaimed and head back to Triple-A Norfolk.

Vavra returns to Baltimore’s bench mix ahead of Saturday’s doubleheader against the Red Sox at Fenway Park. The 28-year-old former prospect didn’t appear in the majors last year after getting into 67 games the previous two seasons for the Orioles. His defensive versatility gives him some appeal in a reserve role, but he can be safely ignored for fantasy purposes.

Vavra returns to the Orioles organization after spending time in the Baltimore and Seattle organization in 2024. He’ll be a depth piece in Triple-A Norfolk barring something unforeseeable.

The Mariners claimed Vavra off waivers from the Orioles on Aug. 25, only to DFA him six days later. He declared free agency after clearing waivers, and this puts him back in the organization he’s spent the rest of the last four years with. The 27-year-old will return to Triple-A Norfolk. He’s hit .254/.331/.304 in 159 career major league plate appearances.
