Blue Jays manager John Schneider confirmed Dylan Cease (hamstring) will be activated from the injured list to start Tuesday’s game against the Phillies.
Schneider also added that Max Scherzer (forearm) will be activated to start Wednesday’s series finale at the Rogers Centre with Trey Yesavage being pushed back to Friday’s showdown against the Yankees. The influx of veteran reinforcements also pushes rookie standout Spencer Miles back to a long relief role. It’s a stunning turn of events that Toronto has a legitimate five-man rotation again after piecing things together for most of the last two months. Cease threw 75 pitches in his final rehab outing and shouldn’t have any limitations in his return from the injured list.

Trey Yesavage allowed six earned runs over 5 2/3 innings while striking out five in Friday’s loss to the Orioles.
After retiring the first two batters he faced to start the game, Yesavage surrendered a solo homer to Adley Rutschman to give the O’s an early 1-0 lead. It would be the only run and hit Yesavage would allow through the first five innings, as the righty was largely in control of the strike zone while generating weak contact. The Orioles got after Yesavage a bit in the sixth, however, with Jackson Holliday kicking things off with a leadoff double. Gunnar Henderson would later walk to put two runners on with one out, and was driven in by Adley Rutschman two pitches later to tie the game at 3-3. Yesavage would then give up an RBI single to Jeremiah Jackson to put the Orioles out in front, which was followed by a two-run homer by Coby Mayo to officially knock Yesavage from the game. Yesavage was solid before disaster struck. What was nearly one of his best outings of the season turned into the most earned runs he’s allowed in a game all year. He’ll look to bounce back in his next start, which is scheduled for Wednesday against the Phillies.

Trey Yesavage allowed one run and struck out four batters over five innings in a no-decision against the Orioles on Saturday.
Yesavage tossed two scoreless innings before the Orioles broke through with a run on two walks and a hit in the third. Yesavage would go two more scoreless frames, ending his day after five with four strikeouts. He was fortunate not to come out of this one with more damage, as he issued a career-high seven walks. The 22-year-old right-hander will take a 2.19 ERA, 1.16 WHIP, and a 39/17 K/BB ratio across 37 innings into a start against the Braves in Atlanta on Thursday.

Trey Yesavage was tagged for a season-high five runs over 6 2/3 innings on Monday in a loss to the Marlins.
It’s a disappointing result considering Miami’s lineup has been downright pedestrian through two months this season and Yesavage was coming off a brilliant five-start stretch with a sublime 1.07 ERA and 29/8 K/BB ratio across 25 1/3 innings of work. The dynamic 22-year-old top pitching prospect held the Marlins to a pair of runs before the metaphorical wheels came off in the sixth inning when he gave up run-scoring doubles to Kyle Stowers and Javier Sanoja with two outs in the frame. It’s hard to fault him on Stowers’ double as rookie left fielder Yohendrick Piñango probably should’ve made the play to end the inning. He finished with six strikeouts and only issued two walks. He’ll wrap up a two-start week with a road tilt against the Orioles on Sunday.

Trey Yesavage picked up the win on Wednesday in the Bronx, striking out eight while allowing just two hits as the Blue Jays took down the Yankees 2-1.
Another young starting pitcher is continuing a dominant start to the 2026 season. Yesavage was slowed by a right shoulder impingement in spring training and didn’t make his season debut until April 28. Wednesday was his best start to date, and it marked the second consecutive outing in which he completed six frames. He’ll carry a 1.07 ERA into a juicy home matchup versus the Marlins next time out.

Trey Yesavage pitched well in a no-decision against the Tigers on Friday night, surrendering just two runs on four hits over his six frames.
The 22-year-old right-hander racked up six strikeouts on the evening while issuing three free passes. The Tigers scratched out a run against him in the third inning as Kevin McGonigle scampered home on a wild pitch. They added another in the sixth as Riley Greene smacked an RBI double. Yesavage got 19 swings and misses on 88 pitches on the night, registering a strong CSW of 33 percent. He’ll carry a brilliant 1.40 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and a 21/8 K/BB ratio (19 1/3 innings) into a tough matchup against the Yankees in the Bronx on Wednesday.
  • TOR Starting Pitcher #39
Trey Yesavage tossed four scoreless innings with six strikeouts in a no-decision against the Angels on Saturday.
Yesavage had a good feel for the splitter early on, striking out the side in the first inning, all on swinging strikes. The next three innings were a battle. He stranded two runners in the second inning with the help of an incredible outfield assist from Addison Barger. Yesavage worked through more traffic in the fourth as he stranded the bases loaded on a ground ball double play. That would be it for him, ending his day at 87 pitches. He generated 15 whiffs, eight on the split, to strike out six batters. The 22-year-old right-hander will take a 0.68 ERA, 1.35 WHIP, and a 15/5 K/BB ratio across 13 1/3 innings into a start against the Tigers in Detroit on Friday.

Trey Yesavage pitched well in a losing effort against the Twins in Sunday afternoon, piling up six strikeouts over four innings of one-run baseball.
Yesavage scattered five hits on the day while also issuing three free passes. The lone tally against him came on an RBI single off the bat of Victor Caratini in the first inning. He threw 82 pitches (52 strikes) in the ballgame, getting 15 whiffs and posting a strong CSW of 33 percent. He’ll carry an impressive 0.96 ERA 1.29 WHIP and a 9/3 K/BB ratio (9 1/3 innings) into Saturday’s matchup against the Angels.
  • TOR Starting Pitcher #39
Trey Yesavage pitched 5 1/3 innings in combining with four relievers on a four-hit shutout of the Red Sox in the Jays’ 3-0 win Tuesday.
Making his season debut after missing time with a shoulder impingement, Yesavage allowed all four hits before Mason Fluharty, Jeff Hoffman, Tyler Rogers and Louis Varland combined to retire 11 of the 12 batters they faced. Yesavage struck out three and walked none while focusing mostly on his fastball and splitter. He used his slider just six times tonight. Last year, he threw that pitch 29 percent of the time. Tonight, it was eight percent. He ended up with just five whiffs, but he also allowed only three hard-hit balls. It’s just one start, of course, but it suggests that Yesavage will prove to be worth the wait for those who got him at a discount at the end of the spring. He’ll face the Twins next time out.

Blue Jays activated RHP Trey Yesavage off the 15-day injured list.
Yesavage is back to make the start Tuesday against the Red Sox. The 22-year-old was a breakout star for Toronto in both the regular and postseason, and while he likely will be working on a strict pitch/inning count early on, his ability to miss bats makes him a very intriguing option going forward.
