Josh Ekness, who was called up on Friday but has yet to pitch, was seen on crutches following Sunday’s game.

Kevin Barral of Fish on First is reporting that the Marlins are calling up Zach Brzykcy to join the pen. It seems likely that Ekness landing on the IL will be the countermove.

Marlins sent RHP Zach Brzykcy outright to Triple-A Jacksonville.

Brzykcy loses his spot on Miami’s 40-man roster in advance of next week’s Rule 5 Draft. The 26-year-old righty, who made a career-high 26 relief appearances this past season, was claimed off waivers from the Nationals last month. He’ll compete for a spot in the Marlins’ season-opening bullpen during spring training.

Marlins claimed RHP Zack Brzycky off waivers from the Nationals.

Brzycky, 26, gave up 23 earned runs in 23 innings for the Nationals last season, lowering his career ERA from 14.29 to 10.05. Subpar command of average stuff makes him seem like a pretty weak bet going forward.

Brzykcy has a 9.00 ERA and has given up a whopping 12 homers in 23 innings of relief work for the Nationals this season. To put that in perspective, 11 starters who qualify for the ERA title have allowed fewer homers.
