Phillies selected RHP Zack McCambley from the Marlins with the 12th selection in the Rule 5 draft.
McCambley, 26, had a 2.90 ERA and an 83/22 K/BB in 62 innings out of the pen between Double- and Triple-A last season. He throws in the mid-90s, but he uses his cutter more than his fastball and also attacks hitters with a slider. It’s package that could make him adequate in middle relief.

Marlins RHP prospect Zach McCambley struck out 11 over 5 2/3 innings for Double-A Pensacola on Wednesday.
McCambley allowed just two hits -- one of them a homer -- and issued two walks. The right-hander has had a tough go of it for most of the 2022 campaign, as this ‘lowered’ his ERA to 5.30 EA in his 73 innings with the Blue Wahoos. There’s no questonining McCambley’s stuff, he has one of the best curveballs in the minors, and that’s not hyperbole. He also has an above-average fastball and average change, but the command has gone backwards as seen in 38 walks. If he can throw enough (quality) strikes he has a chance to pitch as a mid-rotation arm, but there’s no denying the volatility in his profile.

Marlins RHP prospect Zach McCambley fired seven perfect innings on Tuesday for High-A Beloit with eight strikeouts.
Twenty-one up, twenty-one down. Not bad for a second professional start. McCambley didn’t get a chance to finish the perfect game because of a pitch-count limit, but it’s still a heck of a start -- and just the second professional start of the 22-year-old’s career. The 75th pick out of Coastal Carolina last June, McCambley has a plus curveball right now, and he complements that bender with a low-to-mid 90s fastball and usable change. Don’t expect the right-hander to develop into an ace. but McCambley could be a fast-track pitcher who pitches in the middle of the Miami rotation in a couple of seasons.
