Mohamed Sanu retired from the NFL after 10 seasons.
This one probably could’ve gone without an announcement. Sanu, 36, who last played a regular-season snap in 2021, was drafted in the third round by the Bengals back in 2012, and walks away with a career receiving line of 435-4,871-27. While he never topped the 1,000-yard mark, Sanu eclipsed 700 yards in a season three times, with his best year coming in 2018 when he went for 66-838-4 with the Falcons.

Dolphins signed WR Mohamed Sanu to a one-year contract.
Sanu hasn’t been fantasy relevant since 2019 and the Dolphins won’t really ask him to be in 2022. He’ll be a dirty-work blocker and role player if he makes the roster.

  • FA Wide Receiver
49ers activated WR Mohamed Sanu (knee) from injured reserve.
Sanu has been out since Week 9 because of the knee issue. He recorded 15 catches for 177 yards in eight regular season games. Sanu will not be a fantasy option in the NFC Championship game.

  • FA Wide Receiver
49ers designated Mohamed Sanu (knee) to return from injured reserve.
The 49ers did the same for DBs Emmanuel Moseley and Tavon Wilson. Sanu suffered a knee sprain in Week 9 that forced him to the reserve list. He has a shot to return this week as the 49ers push for a playoff spot, but he will not be a fantasy option either way.

  • FA Wide Receiver
49ers signed WR Mohamed Sanu, formerly of the Lions, to a one-year contract.
Sanu will return to San Francisco, where he played three games in 2020 before being cut. He managed one nine-yard reception in his brief stint with the Niners before signing with Detroit later in the 2020 season. Sanu, 31, isn’t likely to make the team’s Week 1 active roster, and would only see playing time if the 49ers once again struggle with wideout injuries. It’s been downhill for the veteran since the Patriots unbelievably traded a second round draft pick for Sanu in 2019, only to see him catch 12 passes in six games.

  • FA Wide Receiver
Mohamed Sanu caught 2-of-6 targets for 13 yards in the Lions’ Week 17 loss to the Vikings.
After being cut by the receiver-needy Patriots this offseason, Sanu spent three weeks in San Francisco before landing in Detroits’ three-receiver sets to close out the 2020 season. Sanu caught 16 passes for 178 yards and one touchdown in seven games with the Lions. It might’ve been enough production for Sanu to parlay that into a low-dollar contract this offseason. The 32-year-old is set for free agency. Sanu is nothing more than an experienced depth option at this point.

  • FA Wide Receiver
Lions activated Mohamed Sanu from the practice squad.
Sanu was unable to stick on an active roster with the receiver-needy Patriots and 49ers this season, so expectations should be close to zero for the veteran. With Kenny Golladay and Danny Amendola out, Sanu projects to be the fourth or fifth receiver behind Marvin Jones, Marvin Hall, and Quintez Cephus.

  • FA Wide Receiver
Lions signed WR Mohamed Sanu to the practice squad.
Sanu adds depth with Kenny Golladay (hip) sidelined. He’ll settle for a practice squad deal after lasting just three weeks with the 49ers earlier this year. Sanu seems like a good bet to be added to the active roster.

  • FA Wide Receiver
Lions hosted free agent WR Mohamed Sanu.
Lions (expectedly) went full Matt Patricia, kicking the tires on 31-year-old Sanu rather than going all-in on potent WR Marvin Hall or fifth-rounder Quintez Cephus to sub for Kenny Golladay (hip) down the stretch. It’s also an ominous sign that Golladay will likely be sidelined long-term. Sanu had a cup of coffee with San Francisco earlier this year, catching one pass in three games.

  • FA Wide Receiver
    49ers released WR Mohamed Sanu.
With Deebo Samuel avoiding setbacks in his 2020 debut on Sunday, Sanu was no longer needed. Sanu made it three weeks in San Francisco, catching one pass in three games. It has been a stunning fall for 31-year-old Sanu following his Patriots acquisition for a second-round pick last October. It would seem his 2019 ankle injury cut the heart out of his game.
