Carpenter, Newgarden test in Texas (VIDEO)

CFH Racing endured a nightmare race weekend at Texas Motor Speedway this year, so Wednesday’s team test at the Verizon IndyCar Series’ lone 1.5-mile facility was an important one for Ed Carpenter and newly re-signed Josef Newgarden.

But luckily, the two found elements they needed to get things right as they continued to dial in the Chevrolet aero kit at the track.

“Any time you come to the track, you learn things,” Carpenter, driver of the No. 20 Fuzzy’s Vodka Chevrolet and co-owner of CFH Racing, said in a release. “When we were here in June for the race we hadn’t really gotten our cars dialed in yet to the new Chevrolet aero kits.

“This is a good opportunity to come back and reaffirm what we learned and what we felt like we got better at Fontana (Auto Club Speedway) and Pocono (Raceway). So we are able to come back here and say, ‘Yeah, we have fixed the issues that were bothering us here last year.’”

This marked Newgarden’s first formal test since re-signing with CFH for 2016. He also tested at Road America in September, a few weeks ago.

“I think probably because this year we had such a successful season - we won a couple of races and were close in the championship battle - I think that just reinvigorated me to get going immediately,” Newgarden said of continuing to test. “I really don’t want to have an offseason this year.”
