Hunter Lawrence outpaces brother Jett Lawrence to sweep High Point motos

MOUNT MORRIS, Pennsylvania: Hunter Lawrence swept the High Point motos to score his second overall win in four round. This was also the second time he won with 1-1 scores.

Hunter needed the strong run. He finished second and third in the last two Nationals, but has not looked like he was capable to consistently ride with Jett. At High Point, Hunter leveled the playing field.

He scooted out to a large lead in the first moto as Jett had a slow start. It took half the race for Jett to move into second, and he did not have the pace to close the distance on Hunter.

In Moto 2, Jett got a solid start and slotted into second early, and yet Hunter was still able to ride away from his brother.

Hunter Lawrence took the lead early and easily managed his pace.

Hunter closed to within two points of Jett for the championship lead.

Haiden Deegan also got a much better start in Moto 2 than the first race, but he got pinched in the first turn and fell to sixth on the first lap. He rebounded quickly to complete that lap in fifth and steadily worked his way through the field. He took fourth from Aaron Plessinger on Lap 5 and third from Jorge Prado on on Lap 9. That put him in a position for third overall, which he maintained until the checkers.

This was Deegan’s second career 450 Motocross podium.

After clearing Prado, Deegan went two and a half seconds faster than Jett for a couple of laps, but once he was informed Deegan was closing, Jett picked up the pace and managed the gap.

Prado and his teammate Plessinger had one of the best battles of the afternoon as they raced for fourth in Moto 2. Plessinger prevailed with the position over Prado.

They reversed that result in the overall. Prado’s third-place finish in the first moto gave him the advantage and he was scored fourth overall. Plessinger finished sixth and fourth for fifth overall.

Garrett Marchbanks was just outside that mark with consistent speed. He finished fifth and sixth in the two motos for sixth overall.
