Ex-Formula 1 driver Robert Kubica has confirmed he will race in next weekend’s 24H Dubai in a Porsche 911 GT3 car.
Kubica raced in F1 between 2006 and 2010 before being forced to quit single-seater racing due to severe injuries sustained to his right hand and arm in a rally accident during the off-season.
After spending three years in rallying, Kubica targeted a return to full-time circuit racing in 2017, and took part in the end-of-season FIA World Endurance Championship rookie test last November, testing an LMP1 car for ByKolles.
Kubica admitted after the test that a future in endurance racing was “attractive”, but wanted to clear any doubts from his mind before committing to a full program.
On Thursday, Kubica confirmed via his Facebook page that he will be entering the 24-hour race in Dubai next weekend in a Porsche 911 GT3 R.
“Dear fans, I would like to confirm that I will do a race in Dubai on 12th-14th of January,” he wrote.
“I will join a national team in a Porsche GT3 car and I will try some 24-hours racing.
“Happy New Year! :)
“Robert.”
The 24-hour race is set to take place from January 13-14 at the Dubai Autodrome in the United Arab Emirates.
