NBA sources yesterday confirmed that retired Luc Longley’s $6.9-million salary this season will come off the Knicks’ salary cap immediately, reducing their cap figure to $86 million.

Longley retired before last season, but remains under contract through next season. The ruling reduces the Knicks’ luxury-tax payment this summer from an anticipated $40 million to about $33 million.
