At one point on Thursday, the Memphis Grizzlies trailed the Sacramento Kings by 26 points. But a late run brought them all the way back, and this last-second layup by Courtney Lee gave them the win.
It was about as close a call as there is, and a postgame video review confirmed that Lee got the shot off in time. The Sacramento Kings announcers saw a tip, it might have been, it was so close, but it was so close it was not enough to overturn the call on (you can here the refs saying “I see space” between his hand and the ball).
It was reminiscent of a play that Lee almost made in the 2009 Finals, when he had a chance to give the Orlando Magic a win over the Los Angeles Lakers in Game 2.
This time, it went in, and we have our buzzer-beater of the year so far.
