Kirk Cousins says he wants Redskins to be like Spurs, so Spurs send him a jersey

The San Antonio Spurs are the model franchise in professional sports. The last time the Spurs didn’t win 50 games in a season (save for a lockout season with 50 total games) George Clooney was Batman, Pierce Brosnan was James Bond, and Hanson had a hit with “MMMBop.” It’s been a while. And while Tim Duncan has walked off into the Sunset, the franchise is poised — LaMarcus Aldridge, Kawhi Leonard, Pau Gasol — to keep right on winning.

Washington Redskins quarterback Kirk Cousins, when asked about a “boring” training camp, told the Associated Press he wants his team to be more like the Spurs.

“I’ve told my teammates that I’d like to be the San Antonio Spurs of the NFL, be super boring and maybe people at the end of the season just go, ‘Wow, they really had a good year and no one really talked about it. I don’t need to promote myself. I don’t need to promote what we’re doing. We have plenty of people here who are very good at doing that if we play well enough. I just want to play football. I don’t want to worry about anything else, and I found from playing at Michigan State and playing even before that, if you win football games, everything else takes care of itself. It’s pretty simple. It’s a pretty simple recipe.”

Gregg Popovich and Duncan would be proud. In fact, the Spurs were so impressed they sent Cousins a jersey, which arrived Thursday.

For the sake of District sports fans, let’s hope Cousins and his receivers get along better than John Wall and Bradley Beal.
