Jose Altuve is a big man in baseball — an MVP, a World Series champion, a five-time All-Star, and the best hitter in the game.
He is not, however, an actual big man.
Not when he is standing next to Sixers center Joel Embiid at the Sports Illustrated Sportsperson of the Year Awards.

To get a sense of just how big a human Embiid is, the photo at the top of this story also includes the Houston Texans’ J.J. Watt, and Embiid towers over him, too.
Altuve and Watt were honored as Sportspersons of the Year not just for their performance on the field but also for their work in the Houston community after the devastation hurricane Harvey unleashed on the city. That’s a good choice and well deserved.
Embiid was there to receive the SI Rising Star Award. Another good call.
