This is why you want Rasheed Wallace as a coach.
Look past the mountain of technical fouls, past the forest of quirks, and you have a guy who really understood how to play the game. A guy young player will respect and listen to.
Right now before camp opens, Wallace is working with second-year big man Andre Drummond down on the block with some back-to-the-basket moves, reports the Detroit News.Wallace has a wealth of knowledge to pass on and Drummond is taking heed.
“He’s helped a lot with my back to the basket now, just getting comfortable with it,” Drummond said. “I have to be able to step out and take a 15-foot jump shot.”
Wallace had that midrange game, too.
While Drummond should be working in the post with his back-to-the basket guy, that is going to be a crowded area for the Pistons this season with Greg Monroe and Josh Smith both doing their best work in tight. Teams are going to pack their defenses in on Detroit. If Drummond really can add a 15-footer it would help.
Still, expect a big year from Drummond, who learned a lot as a rookie and looked like a man among boys at the Orlando Summer League. He’s going to take a step forward this season (as are the Pistons).
