Report: Kevin Garnett-to-Timberwolves trade ‘largely in his court’

It’d be foolish of Minnesota to trade Thaddeus Young for Kevin Garnett.

The rebuilding Timberwolves should have never dealt a first-round pick for Young in the first place, but now that they have, they could still get value for him. A 38-year-old Garnett on the verge of retirement is not value.

Sure, it’d be cool to see Garnett back in Minnesota, but Flip Saunders shouldn’t build the roster on sentimentality.

Garnett – who possesses a no-trade clause – could save the Timberwolves from themselves.

Marc Stein of ESPN:

Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports:

The word “largely” throws me, but it sounds as if Minnesota and Brooklyn have agreed on the structure of a trade (and maybe it includes the Timberwolves getting more than just Garnett).

Garnett previously said he didn’t want a buyout, and if he’s sticking with that, he obviously has some attachment to the Nets. Brooklyn also offers a chance at the playoffs that Minnesota doesn’t.

But Garnett also holds an affinity for the Timberwolves, his first team.

In this case, it takes three sides – the Nets, Timberwolves and Garnett – to make a deal. He might be the last holdout with the clock ticking for him to decide.
