Report: NBA Draft will take place at Barclays Center for third straight year
From 2001 to 2010, the NBA Draft was held at Madison Square Garden. That’s changed in recent years, between MSG’s renovation and the 2012 opening of Brooklyn’s state-of-the-art Barclays Center, where it’s been held for the last three years. It looks like it will be held there again this year. From Tim Bontemps of the New York Post:
League sources told The Post the NBA draft will return to Barclays Center for a third straight season next month. It will mark the fifth straight year the draft will be held at an arena that houses the Nets. It took place at Prudential Center in Newark in 2011 and 2012.While the June 25 draft will be held at the home of the Nets, the focus locally will almost exclusively be on the Knicks, who have the second-best chance to claim the top spot in the NBA draft lottery, which will be held at the ABC Studios in Times Square May 19.
The draft may be in Brooklyn, but their cross-town rivals will be the source of much more scrutiny. The Knicks should have a top-five pick and a chance to land one of the most highly sought-after prospects. At least on draft night, the city will belong to the Knicks, regardless of whose building the event is in.
