Reports: Lakers reach deal to sign Jason Kapono

Foot Locker Three-Point Shootout

Two years ago the Lakers needed better outside shooting. They brought in Steve Blake, but that didn’t work.

In new coach Mike Brown’s twin-towers offense (with Kobe drawing doubles in the post as well) the Lakers will need much better long-range shooting. So they have reached a handshake deal to sign Jason Kapono, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo.

Nothing can be inked until 2 p.m. Eastern Friday, according to league rules, but this will be a one-year deal confirmed by Dave McMenamin at ESPNLosAngeles.com.

Kapono grew up in the Los Angeles area, went to high school at area hoops power Artesia in Lakewood (also home to James Harden) then played his college ball at UCLA. He is a former All-Star Weekend Three Point Contest winner. But the last two years he has been buried on the 76ers bench, playing in just 24 games last season and only getting to attempt eight threes all season. He is a career 43.7 percent shooter from beyond the arc.
